The automatic digitization system for templates
One of the most frequent problems of the users who cut stone materials and glass with CNC machines is the large amount of parts left over from existing templates or duplicated on construction sites.
Dime is the option of the CAD software Logotag to digitize wood and plastic templates or paper drawings. Dime is oriented to the digitization of two-dimensional planar shapes, such as kitchen tops and bathroom tops, tables and windowsills. It is designed to process digital images, representing any shape.
With a digital or an industrial camera, the system is able to capture the image of the template to duplicate and create the drawing in a digital format (TAG, DXF or DWG) with minimal user control.
The acquisition of the image can occur in a different way according to the needs and availability of the user. If you have a CNC machine, the camera can be placed over the cutting table in such a way that the template to be copied is focused from above (a bird’s eye view).
Alternatively, you can mount the camera on a tripod, on appropriate housing fixed to the wall or on dedicated brackets.
It is also possible to acquire the images from any angle, relative to the support level of the object, without fixing the camera. The software will also correct perspective distortion but the angle can affect the accuracy of the system.
Dime can measure any profile as long as the selected references (mark points or on a plane parallel to it) are on the same level.
Recognition of profiles
A digital image can be viewed as a grid of points each of which has a different color.
Dime is able to recognize the contour points, which delimit the object represented in the image, and transforms them into mathematical entities like segments, arcs and curves.
It is possible to manage tangency, parallelism, squareness and symmetry in order to obtain a true object design. The entities are the same that the user, without Dime, should draw manually.
The scale management of the drawing is automatic and involves the placement of a suitable reference on the support copy. A further scaling factor (measure of control) can be set in the case where the reference is smaller than the object to be scanned. It is important that template and background colors are almost uniform and distinct. Functions are still available within the image to eliminate anything that may interfere with the correct identification of the profile.
Dime can achieve the accuracy level of one millimeter or even less in the identification of contours, depending on the resolution of the camera and the size of the shapes to be processed.
2D drawings and processes
With Dime the user, as part of the 2D CAD Logotag, can use all the 2D features for drawing, modifying and integrating the digitalized profile.
The drawing completed with Dime can be transmitted to Taglio CAM for further processing or exported through DWG and DXF files for further processing by third-party software.
