Cam design and processing
WinCamme is the CAD / CAM software for designing cams.
Certain cams can be characterized by their displacement diagrams, which reflect the changing position a roller follower (a shaft with a rotating wheel at the end) would make as the cam rotates around an axis. These diagrams relate angular position, usually in degrees, to the radial displacement experienced in that position. Displacement diagrams are presented as graphs.
The laws of motion defined in WinCamme are the following:
- ARMS simple harmonic motion
- ARMD double harmonic motion (as amended)
- CICS simple cycloidal motion law
- CUBA simple cubic law
- CUBB modified cubic law
- CUBC three periods cubic law
- FILE Law created by the operator with a drawing
- LINEAR linear constant speed
- PARA parabolic constantly accelerated / decelerated in the first half of the period and constantly decelerated / accelerated in the second half
- PARB parabolic constantly accelerated
- PARC parabolic constantly decelerated
- CFP programmed speed (Constant-Parabolic-Parabolic)
- POLA polynomial 3rd and 4th power
- POLB polynomial 3rd, 4th and 5th power
- POLC polynomial 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th power
- SINM double sinusoidal motion
- TRAA asymmetric acceleration
- TRAM modified trapezoidal acceleration
- TRAP trapezoidal acceleration
They can be freely assigned to any period of motion of the movement diagram by simply selecting it. WinCamme will recalculate the curves in the period, according to the width T and the lift H.
The laws of motion differ substantially according to the speed and acceleration coefficients that are able to obtain; proper choice of law as a function of the movement to be obtained is essential to avoid vibrations on the final operation of the machine and to ensure cam profiles achievable .
The choice of the type of law to be used can be made knowing in detail the behaviour and characteristics of each.
